Michael DiLeo

I am a digital nomad since October 2023 and have been bitten by the travel bug. Feeling more at home traveling than being somewhere, I don't see myself stopping any time soon. I love dancing and took up salsa and bachata as soon as I landed in Mexico City and soon after mixing in a bit of Kizoumba and Zouk. I am an absolute sucker for Jazz music and good cocktails, so it should not surprise you that I grew up near New Orleans.

Me posing with a group of Tango performers in Buenos Aires. I unfortunately did not perform (I was totally a part of the Buenos Aires Tango show!)

I began my nomadic life gradually, beginning with traveling for vacation, then to various cities around the US while working before finally deciding to sell everything and travel. I started with Mexico City and went south from there, mostly.

I work as a software developer with 12 years experience, but with my studies being in aviation. After graduating university as a commericially rated pilot and flight instructor, I flew my dad around the country for his work in a small 1971 Cessna 182, which he bought with his retirement money to help me build my flight time (seriously, best dad ever!).

A selfie of me piloting a plane (not the same one we had) with my parents

While I was on the road and without much to do, I began making mobile applications that I thought I could use. Two years later I got my first job as a software developer with IBM in Baton Rouge.

I've been getting in to self hosting and the fediverse, so this blog and a lot of apps are running on my old desktop which is now the server that you are reading the post on.
